Yoga and Meditation

Yoga is a holistic therapy that exercises the body and calms the mind.  It encourages, relaxation, improved flexibility, correct posture and breathing combined with stretching exercises.  Yoga has also been found to improve general health and wellbeing through improved circulation and blood pressure. 

The ultimate goals of yoga are to meditate and to raise the mind above the difficulties of life.  In the ancient yoga texts it was pure meditation but as the form developed certain yoga masters devised a series of physical posture known as asanas.  Along with yogic breathing the asanas stimulate the nervouse system, while the joints and muscle becomes more flexible helping the mind and body to relax.

Some individuals suffering from back pain, RSI, MS, and arthritis have seen notable improvements in wellbeing after regularly practising yoga.  It is a very beneficial means of relieving stress and tension

Iyengar Yoga

This form of yoga involes adopting particular positions ans stances to improve physical and mental strength.  BKS Iyengar is the pioneer of this school of yoga and has been instrumntal in introducing thid indian therapy to the western world.

Hatha Yoga

Helps individuals to overcome the everyday stresses of life and links the ancient teaching of yoga with modern living.

Raja Yoga

Rja yoga is a form of meditative development which involves deep meditations.  Many statues of buddha show him practising raja yoga.

Karma Yoga

Karmic yoga involves living for the moment and opening the mind to allow things to happen.  In this state the right and selfless actions becomes clear.

Bhakti Yoga

This form of yoga involves reaching self awareness through worship.  It is a form of personal yoga that suits those that follow a particula religion or who are naturally spiritual.

Jnana Yoga

Yogi's who practice this form of yoga research the classic yoga texts and search for answers to the meaning of life.

Mantra Yoga

Chanting a mantra repeatedly is associated with tibetian monks who use chanting aids to help develop concentration and help reach a higher state of conciousness.
